DairyPilot® | Supporting Herd Health During Forage Shortages

At Peter Schmidt’s dairy farm near Nuremberg, DairyPilot® helped balance the ration when a forage shortage led to a higher concentrate share. The solution supported feed intake and herd health, while milk yield increased and somatic cell counts remained stable.

The operation

  • 90 cows in lactation (Simmental)
  • Average herd production: 9,000 litres | 4.3% fat | 3.6% protein

Our solution

  • 150 g DairyPilot®
  • To be fed throughout lactation and the dry period
  • Ration composition: grass and corn silage in a 60:40 ratio, crushed grain, soybean/rapeseed meal
  • 150 g of our mineral solution – CamiCal

The goal

  • Improve digestibility of the basic feed
  • Increase feed intake
  • Improve herd health

The success

Due to a shortage in forage, the concentrate ratio in the ration increased dramatically. DairyPilot® was used as a buffering agent and helped to balance out the adjustment. The feed intake has increased and the animals are healthier. In addition, the milk yield has risen by 900 litres, with stable somatic cell counts.
